It’s a common practice for individuals to capture screenshots of their dating profiles and share them with friends and family to seek opinions or inform them of their weekend plans. Now, Tinder users can share their upcoming dates within the app directly, thanks to the introduction of a new feature called “Share My Date.”

Tinder announced on Monday that users can now generate a link containing comprehensive details about their scheduled date, including the match’s name, meeting location, date, and time. Additionally, there’s an option to include a personalized note at the bottom. Users can share these links up to 30 days before the date, and they are editable, allowing users to make updates as needed.

The ‘Share My Date’ links are accessible to all recipients, regardless of whether they use Tinder or not. Friends with a Tinder account can view the match’s complete profile, while non-users can only see a limited version of the profile in their browser, including the match’s photos, name, and age, according to a Tinder spokesperson interviewed by TechCrunch. This ensures that the user’s privacy is protected, a key aspect of Tinder’s commitment to safety. Similar to Tinder’s ‘Matchmaker‘ feature, which enables friends to suggest potential matches, the ‘Share My Date’ link expires after a set period to discourage social media sharing, the spokesperson added.

This new feature was not just a product of Tinder’s innovation but a direct response to the needs and preferences of its users. Insights from Tinder user data revealed that 51% of singles under 30 share details of their dates with friends beforehand. Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s Chief Marketing Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering a fun, safe, and respectful dating environment with the introduction of ‘Share My Date ‘. This underscores Tinder’s dedication to listening to its users and adapting to their evolving needs.

The rollout of “Share My Date” will gradually occur across several countries, including the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, India, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, Switzerland, Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand, in the coming months.

The “Share My Date” launch coincides with sluggish growth for dating apps. As of January last year, there were approximately 12.7 million installs in the U.S., marking a modest 2.38% growth compared to the nearly 16% growth in the previous year. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Tinder’s total number of paying subscribers declined by 8% yearly to 10 million.

Match Group, Tinder’s parent company, also owns Match, Hinge, OkCupid, PlentyOfFish, and other platforms. It is scheduled to report its Q1 2024 earnings on Wednesday, May 8.
