Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has confirmed that the company is in discussions with partners about launching an Xbox mobile store. This move is seen as a direct challenge to Apple and Google in the mobile gaming space. Spencer mentioned during an interview at the CCXP comics and entertainment convention in Brazil that the launch might not be “multiple years away” and could happen sooner, possibly as early as next year. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been a significant factor in these plans, as it aims to strengthen its mobile gaming presence by leveraging popular titles like Candy Crush and Call of Duty Mobile. The company previously expressed the intention to create a new “Xbox Mobile Platform” that includes mobile games from Activision and King. Despite the challenging regulatory climate, particularly in the aftermath of the Epic Games vs. Apple legal battle, Microsoft is actively pursuing its strategy to expand its gaming ecosystem across various screens.
